About the Conference

On 29th and 30th August 2024, we celebrate our 27th International Service-Learning Conference in Buenos Aires in the context of the 21st International Service-Learning Week.

The International Service-Learning Conference, organized by CLAYSS, is a space for educators, authorities and students of all levels, as well as members and leaders of community and civil society organizations. It provides training and updates on the Service-Learning (SL) pedagogy. It also fosters the international exchange of ideas and experiences among schools, higher education institutions, universities, and social organizations currently developing community-based educational projects. It offers a new perspective to all those unfamiliar with SL but curious about projects carried out worldwide.

This unique event aims to foster closer connections between civil society organizations and the formal education system better, benefiting both equity and educational quality.

Objectives

  • To provide training and updates on “the Service-Learning (SL)” pedagogy to educators, authorities, students of all levels, members and leaders of community-based and civil society organizations.
  • To promote the international exchange of ideas and experiences between schools, higher education institutions, universities, and social organizations currently developing solidarity educational projects.
  • To foster opportunities for a closer connection between civil society organizations and the formal educational system, benefiting both educational equity and quality.
  • To celebrate the continuity of the Conference as an expression of an innovative pedagogical movement that continues growing based on the creativity of educators and students.

Call for Papers

The 27th International Service-Learning Conference is organised by CLAYSS, the Latin American Center for Service-Learning

As in 2023, this year’s sessions will focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. Many educators and young people have been using service-learning pedagogy to develop projects that align with the SDGs, alongside initiatives encompassing climate protection, the care of ecosystems, the fight against hunger, and the provision of adequate housing.

CLAYSS is selecting service-learning experiences developed by educational institutions at all levels or by civil society organisations to present in the simultaneous sessions of the Conference.

Solidarity Youth Meeting

We, the young people present here, commit ourselves to listen to our colleagues, learning to seek consensus in decision-making, to be a link with the Management Teams and to motivate the rest so that they can join in experiences of participation, protagonism and service. We are also committed to:

  • Listening to and learning from the people and communities we work with,
Knowing and researching in order to better understand the problems that surround us.
  • Make the most of the spaces for participation that our schools offer us, and invite other young people to join in and be part of the change, contributing ideas and solutions.
  • To reflect on our experiences and learn from them, incorporating deeper and more meaningful deeper and more meaningful knowledge that helps us to grow and improve.
